Smart Tiles is an interactive block board developed during my first year of study at New York University's Interactive Telecommunication Program. This prototype was conceived as an accessible tactile educational toy. The board uses a custom hall sensor array to recognize letter blocks. When a letter block is set in place a text-to-speech engine speaks letters and words.
This project was inspired by traditional wooden letter blocks and is fabricated from a mix of sustainably sourced birch plywood and 3D printed PLA components.
