“Handling” Final Project Update
Over the last week I made progress fabricating my arcade cabinet.
After finishing the design in Fusion360 I separated out which panels to CNC mill, such as the side panels, monitor frame, and leap motion controller holder. The other panels were rectangular and easy to cut by hand.
Following our class workshop last week I made use of the pocket jig to attach perpendicular panels. I did find that I initially wasn’t drilling deep enough to hold the panels together securely and had to adjust the stopping point on the drill bit.
Once I had all of the cabinet components cut I assembled and painted the cabinet.
I also continued to work on the game in Unity, developing the look of the game and getting more familiar with using the Leap Motional Controller. I have found that tracking with the controller is not entirely reliable, so it will probably be wise to have physical buttons and a joystick to fall back on to play the game.
I also put some thought into music and sound design and composed music using https://www.beepbox.co/. My thought is to have various pieces of machinery in the game environment play vaguely musical sounds that can layer onto one another as they activate. Something like this:
