Brandon Roots is a creative technologist, filmmaker, and technical director working at the intersection of story, space, and systems. With a background in film production and interaction design, his work blends narrative and technology across mediums — from feature films to responsive sculptures, embedded devices, and AR installations.
Brandon has collaborated with artists including WangShui and Pierre Huyghe, serving as lead developer and technical producer on internationally exhibited works shown at the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, Copenhagen Contemporary, and The Shed. His projects often explore transformation, presence, and perception through light, sensors, simulation, and custom-built hardware.
As a filmmaker, Brandon’s work has screened at the Sundance, Tribeca, and Vancouver International Film Festivals. His cinematography credits include King Jack (Tribeca Audience Award, 2015) and Lavender (Sundance, 2018), later acquired by Searchlight Pictures.
He is passionate about building systems that support expressive, experimental, and collaborative work. Whether developing spatial interfaces or crafting emotionally resonant films, Brandon is driven by a belief in the power of storytelling across forms.
