Graveyard Inscriptions from Bethlehem Cemetery
New Windsor, NY
This creates the question of Gerard and Isabella's birth years. Now, taking a step back as to why I believe that these are my emigrant ancestors is that the ages for the first James listed, William C., and Irvena fit to what is known from the bible. Add that to a Gerard and Isabella, husband and wife buried in a cemetery near Salisbury Mills, NY, where Gerard was known to live. Analyzing this further, the baby Irvena died 3 days after coming to the U.S.(see passenger lists infant). The mother, Isabella, died one month later. Could this have been from a disease on the ship that brought them over? You can see on the one page of the passenger list, that there were five dead on that page alone. I also find it strange that Gerard and Francis W G, died 5 days apart. Another mystery is, assuming this a family plot, who are the second James listed, Francis W G, and Aunt Nelly? Below are some pictures of the cemetery. Another thought I had on "Francis W G" is that the "W G" stands for wife of Gerard. Their deaths are 5 days apart and they were close in age. This could be Gerard's second wife. When I get the chance I will drive there and take some pictures of the gravestones and verify them.
The above was recorded in a collection entitled Graveyard Inscriptions of Cemeteries in Orange County, NY.
